Advanced Line Graph
Direct link to topic in this publication:

Like the Line Graph widget, you can use the Advanced Line Graph widget to represent a time series metric, but with the addition of a table that provides the following supplemental details:

  • Value
  • Minimum value over the defined time range
  • Maximum value over the defined time range
  • Availability
  • Number of incidents related to the metric

Metrics can be for a single instance or spread across multiple instances. Like most widgets, you can scope the results to specific instances and metrics using a variety of filtering options.

Use case

The Advanced Line Graph widget is useful when:

  • Identifying performance trends
  • Comparing period over period performance
  • Comparing individual metric values
  • Exact values are required

Examples

HTTP response time comparison

In this example, the Advanced Line Graph displays the HTTP response time values of all the Linux web servers. The dotted line represents the historical value of the selected metric. Below the line graph, the data is presented in the form of a table.

Configuration

When creating or editing a widget, a drawer that shows the widget's configuration options slides out from the right. Each configurable option is described in the following table.

Field Description
Block Title

Name of the widget as it appears on the dashboard.

This field shows the default name of the widget. Select the pen icon to rename the widget.

Metrics Add the metrics that you want to be visualized in the Advanced Line Graph.

Metric Calculation

Select if you want to display the metric data aggregated over the selected time range. The following values can be selected to calculate the aggregated data:

Values:

  • Average (default)
  • Min
  • Max
  • Sum
Information Note: The Metric Calculation option only appears if you select the Aggregate metric checkbox.
Comparison

Compare the trendline to its historical values. A dotted line represents historical values.

Values:

  • None
  • Same time yesterday
  • Same time last week
  • Four weeks prior
